[ That catches him by surprise, leaving him blinking as thoughts scatter through his mind. Memories, fragments and whole flit around like birds.

Eventually it clears as he pushes them aside and gazes softly at his beloved. Ignoring how his heart hammers away. ]

My A-Xu is a very good man.

[Birds that he has every intention of capturing and placing in some order. Zishu cups Kexing's face between his hands and holds him. Just like this. Steady.]

What did that make you think about?

[ Hands that steady him in a way that nothing else ever has. Kexing leans into them with a little breath, arms curling tighter around Zishu's waist.

Does he dare give voice to those memories? His A-Xu asks it of him. So he draws in a careful breath, lips quirking though his gaze drops. Fingers dig just a little into the heavy cloth at Zishu's waist. ]

Broken promises. Empty words.

[The answer doesn't surprise him. So much must have happened to his Lao Wen to transform him into the terrifying Ghost Lord. Zishu loves both sides of his beloved and he doesn't shy from understanding the darker aspects. He just wishes he could have been there with his soulmate, holding his hand, helping him escape that nightmare.]

I will prove mine are not empty. [Zishu presses his lips to Kexing's forehead.] What I know, what I feel... You will be told. It feels right to be honest with you.

[ He doesn't like thinking about what he'd gone through at the hands of the previous Ghost Lord. He'd survived it, had learned how to protect himself with masks and acts. Had learned to be hard and cruel and insane. Clinging to the only thing left to him.

The kiss to his forehead draws him out and he gives himself a little shake as he focuses on his soulmate. ]

You promised me you would live. And you are. I can feel your body getting stronger, A-Xu. Nothing else matters.

[What can he do besides sit and wait patiently? If his beloved is afraid to come out, hiding behind insanity, Zishu will stand beside him, never wavering. His smile is a little sad and he sighs, pulling his Lao Wen into his arms.]

I will keep my promise. All of my promises. I don't make them lightly. You are my heart and soul.

[ He presses into those arms, tucking his face against the strong pulse at Zishu's neck and nuzzling a little. ]

And so my soulmate is very good to me.

As if my Lao Wen doesn't take care of me. [His voice wobbles with emotion and he rubs over Kexing's strong back.] You've carried me and lost sleep over me. I'm sorry I scared you.

[ The emotion in his beloved's voice makes him shudder and he tightens his hold on Zishu. ]

No more apologies. I like carrying you.

[These arms are safe and he happily gives Kexing all of him. Every last bit.]

One day I will carry you for the hell of it.

[ He presses a grin to Zishu's neck. ]

I'll swoon just so you can have an excuse~

[A grin that crosses his lips too, fierce and bright.]

You will never touch the ground. I will carry you in my arms and care for you.

[ Oh that's not fair! How is he supposed to remember to breathe?! ]

I don't need to touch the ground. I'll fly!

Do you have wings? [Zishu tickles Kexing's sides in his "search".] Where do you keep them? Under your pretty shoulder-blades? Is that why you like them so much?

[ Kexing squirms, grinning at the tickling hands. ]

Maybe you should look for them tonight, A-Xu~ Only you can find them.

[No! There is no escape! Except that Zishu forgoes the tickling to kiss his Lao Wen's neck.]

I'll start here if you don't mind.

[ His attempts to escape are so pitiful he barely even moves. Why try when he has his soulmate pressed so happily against him? Kexing laughs, tipping his head back to welcome soft lips as he shivers just a little. ]

Anywhere you want.

[He hums, absolutely content, nibbling on the soft skin under Kexing's ear. He refuses to stop until the flesh turns a bit pink.]

Even if I started with your toes?

[ The nibbling makes him shudder and lean against his soulmate, eyes fluttering closed in contentment. ]

My toes are very far away from my perfect mouth, A-Xu.

[He gasps close to Kexing's ear and then laughs mischievously.]

But not so far from another part of you I enjoy to kiss.

[ He loves that mischief in his soulmate's laugh and it takes effort to purse his lips into a pout and flutter his eyes pathetically. ]

[Zishu pulls back and nudges their noses together.]

I want to start on our month the moment we're away from here.

[ The pout immediately softens as their noses nudge together at that promise and he tilts his head just enough to claim a soft kiss. ]

The Merchant said the next ship will be here tomorrow.

[He brings Kexing's hand to lay over his chest, his heart beating strongly and steadily. The kiss makes him shudder and he leans forward, practically melting over his soulmate.]

Tomorrow. Shall we embarrass our fellow passengers?

[ He strokes over that strong, steady beat of the heart he loves so fiercely. Kexing hums as he adjusts to support his beloved's weight, claiming another kiss just because before grinning against those soft lips. ]
