[ The fire can't hold a candle to the warmth he feels in Zishu's arms. He beams and happily snuggles in and gives himself to this precious soulmate of his. A laugh escapes as Zishu rubs a hand over his stomach and arches up as if offering even that! ]

Of course you would!

Did you bring food out here, A-Xu? We should eat! I just brought the wine.

[Some nicely cooked meat is resting on a wooden plate by the fire. Zishu would happily kiss that stomach - it's such a nice offering! - but he would much rather see his beloved full and content.]

Eat, love. I went hunting and found the animals the villagers often consume.

[He kisses Kexing one more time before helping him sit up.]

The wine will be good with it.

[ See how distracting Zishu is to Kexing? He hadn't even noticed the fresh meat! And Zishu can always kiss his stomach after dinner. Kexing won't mind~

His cheeks pink a little as he kisses back, but he's reluctant to let go completely as he sits up. So instead of completely pulling away, he settles against his beloved's side after pulling the plate to them and sets it on their legs so they can share. ]

My mighty hunter~ Did you remember to remove the guts this time?

[He likes being that distracting! And he is rather proud of his meat, okay. He remembered what Kexing had taught him and, well, he didn't ruin it?

He reaches out to hold the plate steady while Kexing snuggles against him. The choice of staying close obviously pleases him as he immediately shares his blanket, draping it over Kexing's back.]

I remember everything you say.

[ He flushes happily at that answer and how his beloved makes sure he's also under the blanket. Just for that, he leans in to claim a soft kiss, gazing lovingly at Zishu for a moment. ]

As you should.

[ The words are teasing, for all the softness in his eyes. Zishu is his source of peace. Sanity. Everything that matters, he finds with his soulmate.

But then he smiles and picks up a piece of meat, nibbling on it before humming his approval. ]

It's good!

[All of the little details matter - and, really, they're not little at all. He doesn't like the idea of Kexing being cold and so he instinctively snuggles his soulmate and smiles into their kiss.]

As I should?

[His eyes widen and he blinks innocently. Then he kisses Kexing's cheek - the right punishment for being adorable, he thinks.

The praise makes him feel giddy and he ducks his head, grinning broadly.]

That means a great deal coming from my Lao Wen. You make such delicious food.

[ Everything that concerns them matters. Every little detail is not too small to meet. So he loves feeding his A-Xu and making sure he eats and sleeps enough to the point he guards that precious slumber.

He grins and kisses his love again. ]

Yes~

[ He laughs and leans into that kiss to his cheek, snuggling against his beloved. That adorable reaction has him grinning again and it's his turn to kiss Zishu's cheek. ]

I like cooking for my A-Xu.

[Now he gets to return the favor~ It's a shame he doesn't have any spices to work with, but meat is usually good after being cooked over a fire.

He peels off a piece of meat and pops it into his mouth, barely detecting the smokiness. But it is still juicy, so he didn't overcook it.

The kisses make him shudder and he closes his eyes.]

I wish I could give you a baby. You'd be the best father.

[ They'll just need to hunt down spices. But for now, this is good enough, and Kexing appreciates the perfection of meat cooked over a fire.

He nuzzles his beloved's cheek, peppering a few more kisses to soft skin before taking another bite of the juicy meat. ]

You'd be the best mother.

We could adopt...A-Xu? I'm sure there are children here who need parents...

[Zishu will enjoy flavor again one day, but for now, it's about the energy food gives him. He eats so he can keep up with his beloved! The kisses just encourage him to enjoy his creation, however eventually he lays his head on Kexing's shoulder and watches the flames dance.]

I don't know about that. [He chuckles and then tips his head curiously.] If we find a place to really settle, I would be open to it. Otherwise it's not fair to drag them around at random.

[ It's why Kexing focuses on foods that are good for his beloved. Filling and energizing. And he rewards Zishu with many kisses and cuddles! Though that's also...because he loves them.

He leans his cheek against his beloved's head as they finish the plate between them, then offers one of the bottles of wine. ]

...So thoughtful, A-Xu. Yes. When we find a place to settle...we'll have many babies that way.

[He loves them too. With the plate set to the side, he can really nestle against his soulmate. Little kisses will find their way to Kexing's neck.]

I'll share with you. [Zishu takes the bottle and pulls out the cork, offering Kexing the first sip.] Do you want a big family, my Lao Wen? One that's loud and happy?

[ He's besotted with his soulmate, as is only natural! He tilts his head in a way to welcome those kisses and he wraps an arm around his beloved. He beams at the offer and happily takes a sip. ]

It's good wine, too!

[ Kexing nudges the bottle back to Zishu and thinks about that. ]

We should have many children. A big family. Happy...and safe. Each one will know they won't be abandoned ever again.

[More kisses will come! Zishu understands that he can't deny Kexing anything. He also knows that he can trust his soulmate with his deepest secrets - no matter how disgusting they might be. Kexing still smiles for him...still loves him.]

Is it? [He takes a swig of it too and sighs, liking the effect as it warms his throat and then his chest.]

No... No one will abandon them. [Those words captivate him and he wraps an arm around his lover's waist.] Why couldn't I have been there for you, love? I would've fought them all.

[ Zishu puts up with how wildly Kexing's moods and thoughts can fluxuate, even now that the Waters he'd drunk as a child have mostly been nullified. This is something Kexing will never take for granted, and does his best to make sure Zishu knows how fiercely and completely he's loved. And really, compared to his own secrets...are Zishu's that much worse?

He nuzzles his love's cheek again at that sigh and snuggles him close. ]

You would have been if you'd known.

[ He tucks his head in against Zishu's neck. ]

You're here with me now, that's what matters.

[If anyone understands a fractured mind - a fractured soul - it's Zhou Zishu. When Kexing is obviously upset, he doesn't shy from him; he doesn't leave him to his nightmares. He stays close and waits, patiently, for his love to turn to him. They are one and he won't let anyone hurt his soulmate anymore.

That's why Kexing's death had gutted him. Finally he had found him and he had waited too long to tell him how he felt.

There are many things Zishu should regret, but that... That stands out from the rest.]

Without a doubt. [He nuzzles and breathes in Kexing's scent, happy to be in his arms.] I had a dream... When I was younger, I had a friend... I liked him so much that I gave him my puppy. I don't know why I started thinking about him after all this time.

[ And Kexing always returns to him. Even when they're apart, his thoughts are on his beloved.

He hums at the nuzzling and snuggles in, tucking himself as close as he can get to the sheltering heat that is his beloved. ]

That boy loved you...very much. That gift hasn't been forgotten.

...Lao Wen? [Zishu whispers in awe, shifting so he can hold his lover with both arms. The wine is forgotten.

Could that little boy be - ? And then...

Well he knows what happened. He doesn't care if his beloved fusses, though he doubts he will: Zishu pulls him back into his lap. With his heart hammering in his ears, he keeps his touches soft.]

I loved you then, too. So much.

[ He can only breathe because of those sheltering arms. He doesn't care about...anything at the moment but curling into his love's lap when pulled in and tucks his face in against Zishu's neck to take a deep breath. He can feel how fast his soulmate's heart beats and strokes gentle hands over his back to try and calm it, worry wrapping around him and squeezing. ]

I know, A-Xu. I've always known.

[His heart is racing because... One of them came back. One of his precious loved ones...his family...returned to him. Zishu inhales shakily and holds Kexing tight, so amazed that he is unaware of the tears in his eyes. Or how they spill down his cheeks and dampen his lover's robes.]

I can't say...if you had stayed...

I don't know. You might have died too.

[ He draws in a startled breath and lifts his head, coming out of those dark memories a bit. Enough to see those tears...and he starts kissing them away as he slowly understands his beloved's fear. ]

I'm with you now. I'm not going to leave ever again.

[The soft lips help quiet his guilt and he rubs over Kexing's back and sides, swallowing against the lump in his throat.]

No wonder you're so cute. [He means it as a tease, but he remembers the sweet little face of his friend. What sort of monster could harm him?]

I kept hoping you survived somewhere, but I never knew.

[ Those wonderful hands help him remember to breathe as he kisses over that poor wet face, occasionally brushing over soft lips before moving back up to those tears. ]

I died and became a ghost, A-Xu. You're the one who brought me back to life.

[He leans into every kiss, returning them. Cupping one of Kexing's cheeks, he steals a kiss of his own. His Lao Wen is alive. This is no ghost that he holds in his arms.]

Then stay alive with me. I won't lose sight of you again. You were my treasure then and you are my treasure now.

[ Each kiss helps chase away the chill of memories. He leans into his love's hand and nuzzles it. Nothing can get him in Zishu's arms. He flushes at being told he'd been this man's treasure when they were children...and that he is just that now. ]

Gladly. I promised you forever and I mean that. You are my life, Zhou Zishu. Wherever you go, I will follow.
